Luxe Letter February 2018

Luxe letter February 2018

To you, my beautiful reader, my luxe letter February 2018. I’m writing this whilst hibernating from the freezing cold temperatures outside. The so-called ‘beast from the east’ has arrived here in Staffordshire in full force, bringing an icy wind, seemingly never-ending snow and lows of minus 6.

Even though I’m a tad fed up of the cold, I still like to see the positives in everything. It’s at times like this I’m so happy I work from home, so I can stay indoors. Plus I’m making the most of hot chocolates, bowls of soup and not having to swat away pesky wasps while I still can! Anyone who knows me knows how much I hate those things with a passion.

Keeping focused on the theme of summer, even though it seems a long way off, we were really happy to finally get a new garden table last week. You’ll have seen me talking about it if you read my last catch-up post. Our old wooden set was very kindly offered to us by family friends to make do with when we moved into our first home. We ‘made do’ with it for 7 years, so it was pretty good going! It was worth the wait to find a new garden set we totally love. Next is a mission to transform the garden into something we love too.

February had so many other wonderful highlights for me. Attending my godson’s christening being one of them and catching up with my best friend and her family afterwards. As my friend moved away to a different area a couple of years ago, it’s always so nice to meet up and to see little Noah too.

Getting lots of bits and pieces sorted in our house is another thing I’ve enjoyed recently.

The oven and hob that I mentioned in my kitchen progress post have been installed, which has made such a difference to the look of the room. Not only do they look so much more modern, but the oven works so much faster than the old one. You can see how ugly the last hob was in the photo below. I’ll try to post another kitchen update at some point.

Kitchen progress

As we were getting an electrician to install the oven and hob, I wanted to find a new outdoor light for next to the front door for him to fit at the same time. Looking for something both a bit modern and slightly traditional too, I found a lovely stainless steel light at B&Q and it just so happened to be on clearance too. You know how much I love a bargain! It looks so much better than the previous light fixture.

We were going to replace the front door, but instead we’ve decided to paint it instead. Hopefully painting the door black and replacing the old hardware with chrome versions is going to look so much better. Well it couldn’t look much worse.

I’ve been looking forward to getting a desk for the spare room so I don’t always have to sit at the dining room table to do my work. As I work from home full-time now, having a desk would be really handy.

As always, a trip to IKEA resulted in the perfect piece. Wanting a white desk with several drawers and plenty of space, I settled on a pair of white Malm drawer sets with a white desk top. For a desk that’s huge with lots of storage, it was amazing value. I’ll share some photos of our spare room progress and our new desk when I get the chance.

Whilst at IKEA, we also picked up a wardrobe frame, drawers and shelves. I had the idea of transforming a little cupboard in our bedroom into a mini walk-in wardrobe as soon as we moved into this house. To me, having a walk-in wardrobe is such a luxury and while ours is a super small version, I’m thrilled with how it turned out.

Turning a cupboard into a wardrobe

Take a peek at my turning a cupboard into a wardrobe post to see how we did it and the almost finished result. All we need now is to fill it with more shelves and it’ll be complete.

February has been such a good month for us. I hope the same can be said for all of you too. Let me know what you’ve been up to and what you’ve got planned for March. Let’s hope it’s a warmer month!

Jenny

Brrrr, the end of February sure was a cold one, wasn’t it?! The “beast from the East” didn’t hit that hard in Leicester, we only had a couple of centimetres of snow, but at my family home in the East of England, my mum was battling through snow drifts up to 3 feet deep! I’m delighted to hear about your kitchen is progressing well and that you have finally got your hands on a new oven and hob! The new garden centre is gorgeous too, roll on some sunnier weather so that you can make the most of it!

Goodness it sounds like there was lots of snow in your Mum’s area! The snow here was not anywhere near that bad thank goodness. Yes I can’t wait to start sitting outside again! x
