Considering we’re over halfway through the year, I thought maybe now would be a good time to look at my 2017 resolutions progress so far. As someone who doesn’t tend to make resolutions, this year I thought it would be useful to make some and write them down on my blog. This way, I can look back at them at various points throughout the year to remind myself of them and why I made them.
When I decided to look back at the resolutions I set, I had forgotten what they were, having not looked at them for a while. However, when I read back through them, I realised I had made very good choices! They were topics that I felt were central to my happiness and well-being.
Let’s see how I’ve been getting on!
Resolution 1: Try to worry and stress less
Having always struggled greatly with being a worrier and someone who gets stressed very easily, this was top of my list for me to work on. I feel that I’ve been doing better with this for the last couple of years.
This year hasn’t been plain sailing so far, and there have been times where I’ve once again really let worry and stress get the better of me. I think that this is always going to be a work in progress. Where I’ve been struggling with this resolution at times, I’ve also had many times where I’ve done well to minimise worry. Realising that I needed to start saying no instead of constantly taking on too much has also had a big impact on my stress levels.
This resolution is something I’m going to continue working on, as it’s so important for my happiness and well-being. Any progress is good progress.
Resolution 2: Relax and treat myself more
As someone who really struggles to switch off and be able to relax, I felt that making this resolution was really important and would link in well with trying to worry and stress less.
Again, I feel that sometimes I haven’t done too well with this. There are many times where I haven’t set enough time aside to be able to properly switch off and treat myself.
Having said that, I’ve recently been doing much better at putting my laptop away early in the evenings, so I make sure I get to enjoy a couple of hours of relaxation time. Going for a walk in the park close to my parents’ house always makes me feel relaxed, so we’ve been hoping to do this more often.
Dan and I have also really enjoyed treating ourselves to little trips out for tea and cake and lunch dates, which is always a nice way of enjoying quality time together.
Reading in the evenings is something I’ve been wanting to start doing again. I find it really helps me to relax and get ready for sleep. Every time I decide to read, I first pick up my phone to quickly check social media, but I get so engrossed that I end up not reading at all. This is something I need to change. Never mind the fact that my kindle is so full of books waiting to be read!
Resolution 3: Get super organised
Getting very organised with my blog was something I wanted to work hard on this year. I’m really pleased with the progress I’ve made so far.
Updating the SEO on all my old posts was quite a task, but one that I recently completed. It was such a relief to finally feel up to date with something that I’d felt was hanging over me for a while. Posting more regularly was something I wanted to achieve, and I’ve been managing to post twice a week much more often.
The more organised I get with my blog, the more relaxed I feel and the more my stats increase, so it has such a positive impact, as I discussed in my July Luxe Letter. There are still more things I can do to feel super organised with it, but I’m well on my way, which makes me really happy.
It’s been really helpful to check my 2017 resolutions progress and to see how well I’m doing. Did you make any resolutions for the year? Let me know how you’re getting on with them.

8th August 2017 at 17:09I’ve been relaxing much more this year and spending less time on the computer. I used to be online until I went to bed and now I’m loving having a bit of TV time instead!

11th August 2017 at 18:26Jenny you’re doing so amazing and I’m taking your cake and tea dates for myself 🙂 – I totally agree with the whole social media thing. I stop looking at it at least an hour before bed although I’ve been so bad this past week that I’ve hardly been on but that’s also been quite nice. I love that you’ve updated SEO from your old posts – I haven’t actually done that but you’re right it is a really great idea so I might make a start tonight. Thank you for the tips and the lovely read 🙂 xx

15th August 2017 at 10:46Thank you so much Maggie – you’re so kind! I’ve been really bad at checking my social media the last few days too, I guess it’s nice to have a break though 🙂 Good luck with updating the SEO on your old posts – I’m looking forward to seeing if it will have an impact on my DA score! xx

12th August 2017 at 10:50It sounds to me like you’re doing way better than you’re giving yourself credit for, m’lovely! Making small but important changes such as going for more walks and spending quality time treating yourself to lunches and tea and cake is really important as a lifestyle change and deserves to be acknowledged and congratulated! Self care is definitely undervalued and it’s great to see you embracing it!

13th August 2017 at 21:15Have you researched bullet journals?
It is basically a method of planning and it has worked wonders for my organisational skills since I started it almost 2 years ago. If you’re looking to try and be more organised, I’d definitely suggest looking into it!
